AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Processor ADX6000CZBOX
Frustrated by staring at the hourglass icon as soon as you try to work on more
than three programs at once, especially when you’re working with digital media?
Increase your performance with the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual core processor. Work
or play with multiple programs without any stalling or waiting. Dual-core technology
is like having two processors, and two working together is better and faster
than one working alone. Do more in less time with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core
processor.
PC World Best Buy Award 2006
The AMD Dual-Core 64 X2 has been named by PC World Magazine one of The
100 Best Products of the Year..
"AMD fans need wait no longer
for dual-core desktop processors--they're ready now. And in our exclusive
tests of an AMD reference system, we found that it beat Intel's dual-core
Pentium Extreme Edition across the board." PC World.
Next Generation Platform is Here
Socket AM2 from AMD is designed to enable next-generation platform innovations
such as AMD Virtualization and high-performance, unbuffered DDR2 memory to the
award-winning AMD64 architecture. This new technology is for prosumers and digital
enthusiasts who are looking to run sophisticated, multiple processor-intense
applications simultaneously. With socket AM2, AMD brings new capabilities like
AMD Virtualization to both commercial and consumer users. Virtualization on
desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines.
AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple
operating environments. Therefore, IT managers can now gain the ability to develop
and test software across multiple operating systems on a single computer to
facilitate software migrations, isolate business and personal operating environments
to increase security and reliability, and to initialize and manage client computers
with less interruption to end users. AMD Virtualization helps make it easier
for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.
New DDR2 Support Jump Starts Transfer Rates
DDR2 memory is the next generation of DDR memory that supports the open standards
efforts of the Joint Electronic Device Engineering Council (JEDEC), the governing
body for integrated circuit specifications. It uses an advanced signaling scheme
that can offer higher data transfer rates than DDR1 memory. The advanced signaling
scheme mentioned above allows high transfer rates using traditional PC motherboard
manufacturing techniques. DDR2 benefits to customers include lower voltage and
higher frequency headroom than DDR1 memory. Socket AM2 processors from AMD will
support DDR2 speeds of 400MHz, 533MHz, 667MHz and, for AMD Athlon™ 64 X2
dual-core and AMD Athlon™ 64 FX dual-core processors, 800MHz.
Like all the processors in the AMD Athlon 64 family, the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core
processor is designed for people who want to stay at the forefront of technology
and for those who depend on their PCs to keep them connected, informed, and
entertained. Systems based on AMD Athlon 64 processors are able to deliver leading-edge
performance for demanding productivity and entertainment software today and
in the future.

HyperTransport™
Technology
HyperTransport™ technology is a high performance, easy-to-implement
system interconnect technology originally invented by AMD. It is designed
to increase overall system performance by removing I/O bottlenecks, increasing
bandwidth, and reducing latency. HyperTransport technology implemented in
the AMD Athlon™ 64 FX processor enables a system bus to run at 1600MHz.
AMD Cool‘n’Quiet™
Technology
In the past, increased processor performance has often meant increased power
consumption and increased noise levels. AMD Cool‘n’Quiet™
technology is an innovative solution available on AMD Athlon™ 64 processor-based
systems that can effectively lower the power consumption and enable a quieter-running
system while delivering performance on demand, for the ultimate computing
experience.
Enhanced
Virus Protection
All AMD64 processors, including the AMD Athlon™ 64 FX, AMD Athlon 64,
and Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processors, are enabled with Enhanced Virus Protection.
With Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you will be able
to fully utilize the security technology*. By providing extra security at
the platform level, AMD lets you easily embrace the future of computing.

I went from a 486dx with 16MB ram to this and not a big difference. I type text files on a 13'' monochrome CRT monitor, and save them to 5 1/4'' floppies.

Very good processor for the price. Plays any game on the market flawlessly. Crysis at 1650x1080, no problem (High settings). (However, you need the high end memory and at least 2GB of it, and a 8800GTX high end video card and LOTS of ample power from the PSU). Intel Quad still outshines in benchmarks, but apparantly in real world performance - AMD seems to run better under stress, espcially in games and for graphic software. Its not a CPU 'designed' to give high benchmarks...
For the reviewer who said going from a P3 to this one was no big diff - if you use notepad, sure no difference. Try playing any game made since 2004 on a P3.
Also, a computer is only as good as its cheapest/oldest part. You can buy a AMD 6000 computer for $499 complete, or buy one that costs as high as $1999. The $1999 will run circles about the cheap one under load. Quality parts make the computer.

This thing is not the fastest processor in the world. iTunes encoding is slowed down and you won't have the highest benchmarks and windows vista scores. HOWEVER, it runs incredibly smooth, I've had absolutely no slowdowns in games, and photoshop runs incredibly smooth on it. If you can bear with 5 extra minutes of encoding on iTunes and the lower scores, but you want a processor that has great value and runs smooth under pressure, go with this one.

NOTE: We
only sell NEW processors purchased direct from the manufacturer or from factory
authorized distributors. We will never sell a "pull" (which is a CPU
removed from an assembled system at some manufacturing plant) or a used processor
as other online vendors do without telling you. We are the largest CPU reseller
in the Country, we offer the lowest prices in the industry on processors because
we deal in such great volume. If you are comparing our price against another
site with a much lower price, you are probably buying returns or pulls. Only
accept genuine quality, buy from Us.
VERY
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING OUR RETURN POLICY ON CPU'S:
Please note that all processors may be returned only for defective exchange.
You must purchase a compatible heatsink and fan on the same order as the processor
in order to preserve your warranty or exchange privilege. We are not able to
accept returns for refunds on processors under any circumstances. All processors
will be inspected and tested upon return and any damage caused by poor packaging,
overclocking, or other tampering with the processor will be cause for the return
to be refused, and exchange denied.
